Massa wins but Hamilton secures title
« on: Nov 02, 08, 22:12 »
There were celebration in the Ferrari pits as Massa crossed the line. For a brief moment it looked as if rain God has helped the title chances of Massa. Not to be. Timo Glock who was on dry tyres lost vital seconds as Hamilton passed him in the last corner to finish fifth. Hamilton won the WDC title by 1 point.

It is Massa who lost the title rather than Hamilton won it. After the debacle in the 2 races previously where he was leading and DNF, it is written in the wall that Massa is going to loose. It happens in every sport and it happenned in F1 too as important points where squandered away by Massa as Hamilton started gaining points. But the end is as it was expected. Hamilton tried to play safely and found himself nervously fighting for the required fifth place. Eventually he acheived it after Ferrari celebrated thinking Massa has won. It is that close. A James Bond real life TV play from a British.

Earlier the race started well barring DC going out crashing as usual. Then Nelson Piquet in his final race for Renault (I anm sure) had his own incident to crash out. Some spins and touches at the start along with these 2 crashed cars ensured Safety car was deployed for 3 laps. Then the real race started. Hamilton is always in the title win with forth placed. Then the rain came just 3 laps to go. And every leading driver pitted including Hamilton. That put him in 7th place behind some of the drivers who pitted early to change to wet tyres or who did not change at all. One of them is Timo Glock who was in dry tyres. I am sure Ferrari and its fans will be cursing him for not finishing the race ahead of Hamilton. But then it was Hamilton's day. Where he lost the championship run last year, same place he won it this time.

In one sentence if you want to narrate this years championship it is just this "Ferrari lost the championship due to wrong strategies, inexperienced staff and misfortunes. Even though they had a championship winning car they did not have championship winning drivers like Alonso. Atleast this year both the drivers are inadequate to raise to the Championship calibre. And Hamilton won the WDC by default."

I agree...
Had he won the few of the races, he could have been leading...
The Final 30 seconds were defining moment of the championship...
