Formula Renault UK is widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost junior single-seater categories, launching the careers of current McLaren F1 driver Kimi Raikkonen, Williams F1 driver Antonio Pizzonia and Le Mans 24 Hours winner Guy Smith.
While other manufacturers have come and gone, Renault Sport UK has maintained its position over the last 30 years with superb technical backing, a professional and dedicated media service and the most experienced team in UK motorsport working behind the scenes.
In addition to the largest raceday crowds in the UK, the Championship is watched by a weekly audience of around 300,000 on ITV1 and 20,000 viewers watching live on satellite channel Motors TV.
An average season budget is between £100,000 and £130,000, inclusive of all races and testing.
2006 Formula Renault BARC Championship
Formula Renault BARC will provide an ideal proving ground for ambitious young drivers who want to race a state-of-the-art, composite chassis single-seater but at an affordable budget in the FR2000 class.
Uniquely, the "Club Class", for space frame Formula Renault Sport cars, provides serious amateur racers with a place to race in a manufacturer-backed series.
Together with the BARC, Renault UK has put together a package designed to allow teams and drivers access the country's best venues - including Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Silverstone and Thruxton - but in a way which keeps costs down.
The eight meeting calendar has four one-day race meetings and four two-day, double-header meetings making a 12 round championship. After registering for the championship, entrants will pay-as-they race with entry fees expected to be an average of £185 for a single race and £315 for a double-header.
All registered entrants will be invited to attend a pre-season official test day free of charge, where they can benefit from the full technical support of Renault Sport UK. Entrants of FR2000 class cars may also be able to attend further official Renault Sport test days.
Tyres for FR2000 class cars will be restricted to 5 sets (10 front and 10 rear) a season to keep cost under control and maintain a level playing field. Michelin will be providing full tyre support, including fitting, at every one of the eight race meetings.
The championship benefits from a £12,000 prize fund with awards down to the fifth placed finisher in both classes at every round. The two class champions will also be given help to progress at the end of the season with free of charge entry into the Formula Renault UK Winter Championship.
